About the Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker
The Level 3 Lead Adult Care Apprenticeship is a full programme for frontline workers in the health and social care field who work in a variety of settings.

Workplace observation assessment – This allows you to demonstrate your competency in performing workplace tasks and responsibilities.

Diploma FAQs
As a Lead Care Worker, you are instrumental in improving the health and wellbeing of those receiving care and support. You are expected to exercise good judgement and accountability by providing leadership, guidance and direction at the frontline of care delivery.
This apprenticeship will equip you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours you need to successfully lead the frontline of the care delivery team. You will learn how to effectively manage resources, lead on approaches, and share best working practice, all with the goal of making a positive difference to someone else’s life.
Management techniques will be tested and applied to practice, such as modelling behaviours, challenging and supporting peers and other practitioners to ensure practice leads to a safe and secure environment.
Apprenticeship Programme, Training and Assessment
- Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England (QCF)
- The Care Certificate
- Level 2 Qualification in English and Maths (applies to those without a prior L2 qualification eg: GCSE grade A-C)
- Portfolio of workplace evidence gathered during the training period.
- Records of regular performance management with both the employer and tutor.
Duration: Typically, 15 + 3 months (Training programme plus EPA)
End Point Assessment (EPA) happens on completion of the training and assessment stage and conducted and graded by the Awarding Body’s Independent Assessor.
Apprentices bring together the knowledge, skills and behaviors learnt through the training stage to demonstrate that they are competent and can perform their roles to the national standard set out in the apprenticeship assessment plan.
The Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship consists of the following two components:
- Situational Judgement Test
- Professional Discussion (supported by a range of work-based evidence).
It is expected that the components are attempted in the order they are shown here. It is expected that the test will be taken before the end-point assessor visit, during which the Professional Discussion will be assessed.
The Apprenticeship Certificate is awarded after successful completion of the EPA.

Apprentices and employer will benefit from our experience of delivering higher level apprenticeships through our unique delivery model and excellent learning resources that provide flexibility to both employer and apprentice. This includes:
- Activities that are based on specific workplace tasks and the requirements of the job, so all learning links directly to your everyday working activities.
- All relevant resources, including free Learner access to Quality Compliance Systems Ltd, here you will find all the CQC compliant operational policies and procedures to provide a wealth of knowledge to help evidence understanding of the care provision and management to support assignments linked to the L3 Diploma.
- Regular webinars/workshops and online webinars. Learners will be required to attend the above interactive workshops, a training calendar for planning will given
- Assessor workplace observations via video conferencing – where the apprentice demonstrates management skills in the workplace, for example, leading a meeting, conducting a supervision and other duties. This provides a rich source of evidence that is required for the portfolio.
- One to one assessor contact arranged via SKPE or Go to Meeting, so the apprentices get individualised support and feedback. We are always keen to respond to individual needs and will provide additional support, as necessary.
- Regular guidance from the friendly office-based Curriculum Team. Our experts are available Monday to Friday during office hours. So, if an employer or apprentice have any queries throughout the apprenticeship, you can give them a quick call or email them for immediate support or clarification.
- An online learning portal enables the apprentices to view all learning activities, access resources and monitor progression. The system tracks progress, what happens next and can easily find any course information required.
- Regular monitoring and support throughout the course ensures progress happens in a timely manner. We are supportive of learners who experience unforeseen or challenging circumstances and work to help you resolve issues to ensure successful completion.
- Social Media – Access Skills Facebook and Twitter provide additional support and contact with Access Skills Curriculum Team and Peers. This includes readily available contact from other learners in the same position.
Progression
Apprentices can progress to the Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care or the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services Adult pathway qualifications. Apprentices may also progress onto qualifications for management or lead practitioner roles in adult care, or to specialist qualifications reflecting the context in which they work.
Apprentices can progress into employment in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres or some clinical healthcare settings within job roles such as: • Senior Care Support Worker • Lead Personal Assistant
Access Skills’ Level 3 Lead Adult Care Apprenticeship is a full programme for frontline workers in the health and social care field who work in a variety of settings. This is a great apprenticeship for people who work in nursing homes, residential or residential care facilities, day centres, or hospital healthcare settings. This programme is designed to give people a wide range of skills that will help them learn more and move up in their current jobs.
People who work as Care Officers, Care Supervisors, Senior Care Workers, and Supervising Care Workers, among others, can gain a lot from this apprenticeship. These jobs usually need a wide range of skills, and this training covers a lot of them, like advanced care techniques, leadership skills, and good communication strategies.

Entry Requirements:
- UK residence for 3 years or more
- Reside in England
- Have a contract of employment and on payroll
- Proof of Residency
- Appropriate ID e.g., Passport or Birth Certificate
- If you are employed by an employer with a payroll of less than £3 million per year, (most private organisations) 95% of the tuition fees are funded by the ESFA. The cost is £4,000 and your employer is required to pay 5% of the course fee (£200 plus VAT).
- If you work for a large Employer where payroll is £3 million per year or more then the course will be funded by the Employer via the Levy process. Please find more information about Levy Scheme Apprenticeships on the government website:

I recently completed my Level 5 Apprenticeship in Leadership and Management in Adult Care with Access Skills Ltd, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience. From the very beginning, their support was exceptional.
