And as it becomes increasingly common for care homes and individual staff to be taken to court, it has never been more important to have robust defensible documentation in place. In fact, according to Outcome Solutions, the company which helps care homes meet their CQC outcomes, many recent care home investigations and subsequent staff suspensions could have been avoided had proper records been in place.

A new report has been developed by Skills for Care in consultation with employers.
The report is for individual establishments who are logged into NMDS-SC to download which will detail whether the establishment meets the NMDS-SC requirements for claiming workforce development funding. If they do it will tell them when they met the requirements and if they do not it will tell them whether the issue is with their establishment data or their worker data.

The Care Quality Commision (CQC) has revealed they have found staff at a Cornish care agency to be insufficiently trained.
Redruth-based Polsloe Community Care has been given a formal warning following an inspection in October.
Officers said staff arrived late for care appointments and the training was insufficient and of poor quality.
The CQC said legal action would be taken if improvements were not made. The agency disputes the claims.

Staffordshire County Council was faced with a legal challenge at the High Court by the Fairer Fee Forum (FFF) who were representing 200 care providers within the local authority’s jurisdiction. However, after a dramatic turn of events, Staffordshire County Council agreed with the FFF to carry out a fresh review of setting their standard rates of fees for care homes so as to avoid a full blown legal challenge at the High Court.
