Southern Cross Care Homes Could Collapse Again..

Action must be taken to prevent a repeat of the Southern Cross care home crisis, a powerful group of MPs has warned.

The Public Accounts Committee said that the Department of Health and local authorities do not know if one operator is becoming too dominant, nor if any is on the brink of collapse.

It singled out a company with almost £1billion of debt which has taken over several former Southern Cross homes as a particular risk.

Workforce Development NMDS-SC requirements report

The report is for individual establishments who are logged into NMDS-SC to download which will detail whether the establishment meets the NMDS-SC requirements for claiming workforce development funding. 'Insufficiently trained' staff at a Cornish care agency

The Care Quality Commision (CQC) has revealed they have found staff at a Cornish care agency to be insufficiently trained.

Redruth-based Polsloe Community Care has been given a formal warning following an inspection in October.

Officers said staff arrived late for care appointments and the training was insufficient and of poor quality.

The CQC said legal action would be taken if improvements were not made. The agency disputes the claims.

Local authority agrees to make a fresh decision on care home fees after facing legal proceedings at the High Court

 

Staffordshire County Council was faced with a legal challenge at the High Court by the Fairer Fee Forum (FFF) who were representing 200 care providers within the local authority’s jurisdiction. However, after a dramatic turn of events, Staffordshire County Council agreed with the FFF to carry out a fresh review of setting their standard rates of fees for care homes so as to avoid a full blown legal challenge at the High Court.
